Have your say for a better application of Human Rights in the EU

The European Union has recently (2.4.2020) launched a Consultation of local and regional authorities on the New European Commission Strategy on the effective application of the Charter of Fundamental Rights in the EU

Since its adoption in 2000, the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights remains unknown to the majority of the EU citizens. According to a Special Eurobarometer report carried out by Kantar Belgium in 2019 the majority of European citizens have never heard of the charter or do not know what it entails.

In this context, DG JUST launched a wider consultation through a dedicated questionnaire available on this link. This questionnaire focuses on how to further support the different actors in the EU Charter’s enforcement chain in making the Charter a reality. The deadline is extended until 15 May 2020.

Local and regional authorities, as the levels of government closest to citizens, are key actors ideally positioned to make  human rights – including the Charter – a reality for all.

At the request of the European Commission, we invite you to participate in the survey and in shaping the upcoming Strategy on the effective application of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights to be adopted later this year.
