Julia Johnson joined the Human Rights Cities Network in April 2024, where she initially assisted with communication but has since moved on to working on policy and capacity building. She holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she specialised in migration and refugee rights. She also has an MA (Hons) in Social Policy and Sociology from the University of Edinburgh. Together, these experiences have shaped her career in human rights stakeholder relations and policy.
Passionate about civic engagement, participatory democracy, refugee rights and social justice, Julia is committed to building more inclusive and participatory societies. Drawing on her policy background, she focuses on helping cities translate international human rights principles into local action to become human rights cities. She wants to ensure that cities are spaces where everyone’s rights are respected and marginalized voices are heard.
