To better understand how to enhance democratic participation of citizens with migration and refugee Background, the Human Rights Cities Network organized an online discussion entitled “ Democracy beyond Elections: Exchange of Good Practices for Enhancing the Democratic Participation of People with Migration and Refugee Background”.
This was done as part of the DARE – Democratic Action of Refugees in Europe project, which is realized with the support of alda* – European Association for Local Democracy and co-funded by the European Union. The results of the discussions have been incorporated into this policy paper.
Through this paper we adress the need to #enhance the democratic participation of citizens with migration and refugee backgrounds within the European Union. It emphasizes that true democratic engagement goes beyond voting; it encompasses various forms of civic participation, including public consultations, community organizing, and advocacy.
